Thunderstorms and New Blooms

June 16th, 2015 in Yukon Plants & Animals

We’ve been treated to a couple of big thunderstorms over the last couple of weeks.  We don’t tend to get many here so it is always exciting when there is a big storm.  The campground was practically full and we all enjoyed watching the flashes of lightening and listening to the loud crashes of thunder as they reverberated off the mountains.

The wild flowers are now coming out in force.  After being so very hot for so long and now having a good soaking we are finding new blooms every day.  We started with the Mealy Primrose and the anemone and at one point the runway was like a sea of pink which was just beautiful.

We now have Wild Roses, Wild Strawberries, Arnica, Bluebells, Buttercups and of course the ever present Dandelions!  Fireweed is blooming close by as are the Lupins.

The office has been re-organised to really make the most of the space and to ensure everyone can see and enjoy all the antiques on display.   Even if I do say so myself, it looks great!  We are joined by lots of campers every day taking a break from their journey and it looks set to be a very busy season.  Everyone is enjoying sharing stories round the communal campfire and making new friends and marvelling at the eternal light that is a Yukon summer.

Stop in and see us soon, we look forward to welcoming you.
